The Homeless

                        By Tom Vance

Key of Em

      Em                            G             D                           C              Bm            Em

1.

  They walk, they always walk, but they have nowhere to go;
      Em               G             D                       C             Bm                    Em
    They wander the streets, with hopelessness in their eyes;
      G              A                       Em    Am        Bm                 Em
    Life has passed them by, people pass them by;
              C                     D                         Bm       Em
    Not hearing the sound of their silent cries.

                                     G                                       A             C              Bm     Em

Chorus

  For they’re the homeless, they’re the rusting souls of society,

                           G                                         A                      C                 Bm                      Em
    They’re the hopeless, they’re the shadows of things we don’t want to see.

2.

  Who are these people, how did they come to be here?
    Where are they from, what brought them here in their lives?
    Is it their own choice, this burden that they bear?
    Are there life lessons that they need to learn?

    Chorus

      Em                    G                                        D                            C              D             Em

Bridge

  Their matted hair, their unwashed faces, tattered clothing and old shoes;
      Em                         G                                      D                  C                     D                       Em
    The cardboard boxes that they call home, the bottles that nurture their souls.

3.

  But could the lessons also be, for the rest of us?
    Could they be teachers for things we all need to learn?
    Lessons of compassion, understanding and love,
    For as go the lowliest of us, so go us all.

    Chorus
