He was born at the dawn of the New Age
                 C9/G                        G/D
On the prairies of east Illinois.
        Am7/D/G                                             D9                                 G/D
The great war was done and the whole world was changing.

Grew up in the 50s and 60s, a fun time to be alive,
     Am7/D/G                D                                                                 G/D
Then in ‘63 at seventeen, he found the voice of his soul.
    G/D                                                                C9/G                           G/C
He sang Puff the Magic Dragon and Mr. Tambourine Man
         Am7/D/G                                                  D9                         G/D
Then it was two years later, that he wrote his first song.
        C/G                               G                                  Am7                              G

Chorus

So sing a song to the prairie winds, and sing a song to the land.
    C/G                     G                                              Am7/G                               D9      D
Sing a song to all who would hear, with all the love that you can.
          C/G                        G                        Am7/G                                      G
And sing a song to valor and to truth where ever they’re found.
          C/G                                         G                                      Am7/G                 D            C/G
And sing to the music that’s in your soul, and to love where ever you go.
          C/G                         D                                     G/D
And sing a song to love where ever you go. (X3 the last time)

Oos
  G/D                                                              C9/G                     G/D

2.

And his life began to flow, into the music that he wrote
  Am7                                  D                             G/D
Feelings he couldn’t say in any other way
  G/C
And his roots grew deep in the prairie soil,
                C9/G                                          G/C
And his heart grows deep in the land
   Am7                                                                           D9                                        G/D
Singing his songs on the prairie wind, and searching for a peace within.
